I will admit it. I get a sick thrill over looking at the full canister on my Dyson. It’s all nasty and gray and I think, how was that on my floors? Now they are so clean! It feels like a huge accomplishment, even if the rest of the house is a mess.
The other thing that makes me really, unreasonably happy, is sucking things up in the vacuum. See ya later Goldfish! Beads, you’re mine!
So after a particularly gratifying vacuuming the other day, I decided to list the peculiar contents from our house to compare and contrast with your own, fitting for a blog called Twice the crumbs, don’t you think? Here we go.
Cat hair- We have a cat. 90% of the stuff in the vacuum is cat hair. There’s probably no additional explanation needed.
Cheerios- Mr. Man hasn’t been interested in Cheerios lately, but we got one of those individual containers in New York last week, so he likes them again. Sadly they often end up 50% in his belly, 50% on the floor, and even more upsetting, when you suck them up in the vacuum, they break in half. What fun is that?
Ribbon from a snow wand- My fault. One of the two remaining snow wands that I made for Little Miss’s Frozen third birthday was on the floor and I sucked the ribbon up, which caused it to rip right off, taking several foam snowflakes with it. To the trash it went. Oh well, let clutter in the house.
Peas- My kids love peas. They eat them cooked, cold or frozen, it really doesn’t matter. Mr. Man likes to eat things by the handful, only getting a portion into his mouth. There are always peas on the floor, no matter how many times I sweep and vacuum.
Crayon wrappers- Mr. Man breaks the crayons, Little Miss peels off the wrappers so there is exposed crayon to use. Neither throws away the wrapper scraps.
Goldfish- Goldfish are everywhere. I am convinced this is a sign of parenthood, finding Goldfish all over the place. In your bag, in the couch cushions, under the chairs. Sadly, like Cheerios, Goldfish don’t survive the sucking process.
Sprinkles- My husband loves those store-bought cupcakes from the bakery section. I picked some up for him the other day with pink and purple sprinkles on them. Some how he managed to upend the container, pouring all the sprinkles all over the family room carpet. They made a fantastic sound when I sucked them up.
Stickers- It’s so much fun to stick stickers on your shirt… for thirty seconds before you throw them on the floor, abandoned to stick to everyone’s socks. Suck, suck suck! Peel off of sock, place on floor, suck!
Glitter- I have a daughter. There is glitter on her toys, on her clothes, in her Play-Doh and thus, in the vacuum.
There you have it, a look at our dirt! Hope you enjoyed!
